What are Stainless Steel 430 Sheets & Plates?

Stainless Steel 430 sheets and plates are flat-rolled ferritic grade products carrying 16.00 to 18.00% chromium and almost no nickel. That chromium builds a passive oxide film for oxidation and mild-corrosion service, while the ferritic structure keeps these Stainless Steel Sheets and Plates magnetic and priced under austenitic 304. Grade 430 does not respond to heat treatment, so mills supply sheet and plate annealed for pressing into panels, trim, and enclosures. Prolonged exposure between about 400 and 550 °C can cause 475 °C embrittlement, so continuous service within this temperature range is generally avoided. Stainless Steel 430 finds typical use in domestic appliances, automotive trim, restaurant equipment, and industrial combustion chambers.

Riddhi Siddhi Impex stocks Type 430 sheets and plates as ready inventory, sourced from reputed primary mills. Cold-rolled sheet arrives in 2B or bright annealed finish from 3.8 mm, and hot-rolled pickled plate covers the heavier gauges, each shipping to ASTM A240 with EN 10204 Type 3.1 / 3.2 documentation on request.

Chemical Composition of Stainless Steel 430 Sheets & Plates

Chromium defines Grade 430. Held at 16 to 18%, it raises the protective oxide that gives the sheet its corrosion and scaling resistance without any nickel addition. The full ASTM A240 limits for UNS S43000 follow.

Element Composition (% by weight)
Carbon (C) 0.12 max
Manganese (Mn) 1.00 max
Silicon (Si) 1.00 max
Phosphorus (P) 0.040 max
Sulphur (S) 0.030 max
Chromium (Cr) 16.00 to 18.00
Iron (Fe) Balance
Nickel (Ni) 0.75% max.

Mechanical Properties of Stainless Steel 430 Sheets & Plates

Formability drives most Type 430 plate orders. Annealed material reaches a 450 MPa minimum tensile strength with 22% elongation, so blanks bend and roll-form without cracking. Grade 430 is not hardenable by heat treatment and carries no cold-work temper ladder.

Property Value (Annealed)
Tensile Strength, minimum
450 MPa (65 ksi)
Yield Strength (0.2% offset), minimum
205 MPa (30 ksi)
Elongation in 50 mm, minimum
22%
Hardness, Rockwell B, maximum
89 HRB
Hardness, Brinell, maximum
183 HBW

Equivalent Grades of Stainless Steel 430 Sheets & Plates

Industrial Applications of Stainless Steel 430 Sheets & Plates

These 4 sectors use the 430 stainless steel sheets and plates we stock. Each values oxidation resistance, a magnetic ferritic structure, and a cost below nickel-bearing grades.

Stainless Steel 430 Sheets & Plates used in Kitchen and Food Processing Equipment

Kitchen and Food Processing Equipment

Commercial kitchen builders press SS 430 sheets into worktops, splashbacks, dishwasher panels, and sink units. The grade holds a clean 2B or bright annealed face that shrugs off cleaning agents and food acids. It suits food-service work at a lower cost than 304 and folds cleanly on a press brake.

Stainless Steel 430 Sheets & Plates used in Appliance and Automotive Components

Appliance and Automotive Components

Appliance and vehicle fabricators blank Type 430 sheet into oven liners, refrigerator side panels, wiper arms, and decorative exhaust trim. The ferritic structure tolerates cyclic warmth better than carbon steel and resists road-salt staining on cosmetic parts, and a bright annealed finish supports exterior detailing.

Stainless Steel 430 Sheets & Plates used in Architectural and Decorative Panelling

Architectural and Decorative Panelling

Architects and interior fitters choose 430 stainless steel sheets in bright annealed finish for lift interiors, wall cladding, column covers, and signage. The reflective surface stays presentable indoors, where chloride exposure stays mild. Panels fold and roll without cracking at a moderate price.

Stainless Steel 430 Sheets & Plates used in Furnace and Heat-Resisting Fabrication

Furnace and Heat-Resisting Fabrication

Equipment makers slit SS 430 plates into burner shrouds, furnace liners, and heat-shield baffles. The grade resists scaling up to roughly 815 °C in continuous service and around 870 °C in intermittent service and expands less than austenitic steel through repeated firing, which limits distortion in large heated assemblies.

Frequently Asked Questions

What thickness range is available for SS 430 Sheets and Plates?

We stock SS 430 sheets from 3.8 mm up to 6 mm thick, with plates above 6 mm, in widths to 2000 mm. Precision-slit widths from 3 mm are available to your specification.

Is Stainless Steel 430 Sheet magnetic?

Yes, Grade 430 is a ferritic stainless steel, so it stays magnetic. That response separates it from austenitic sheet such as 304, which is largely non-magnetic when annealed.

Can SS 430 Plates be welded?

Grade 430 plate welds by conventional TIG and MIG methods, though pre-heating near 150 to 200 °C helps. A post-weld anneal around 790 to 815 °C restores ductility in the heat-affected zone.

How do SS 430 and SS 304 Sheets differ?

Grade 430 is ferritic, holds 16 to 18% chromium with almost no nickel, and stays magnetic at a lower cost. SS 304 is austenitic, with 18% chromium and 8% nickel, giving stronger corrosion resistance for wet service.

Where can I source SS 430 Sheets and Plates in Mumbai?

You can source AISI 430 sheets and plates from us at Riddhi Siddhi Impex. Our Mumbai and Taloja warehouses hold ferritic flat stock ready for dispatch, serving buyers across India and overseas as a supplier, stockist, and exporter.
