Nickel N4 strips are narrow flat-rolled lengths of high-purity wrought nickel slit from source coil. N4 sits near the top of the Chinese pure-nickel ladder at 99.9% minimum nickel plus cobalt. Copper stops at 0.015%, iron at 0.04%, and manganese at 0.002%, limits roughly ten times tighter than Nickel 200 or Nickel 201 strip permits. Less in the matrix means freer passage for current and heat, plus cleaner spot welds. GB/T 2072 names instrumentation, communication, and electronics as the sectors this strip is rolled for.

Nickel runs this grade almost unaccompanied. GB/T 5235 sets 99.9% minimum nickel plus cobalt, caps copper at 0.015%, and fixes trace ceilings for lead, zinc, antimony, tin, cadmium, and phosphorus.

High purity leaves little solid-solution strengthening behind, so annealed N4 strip stays soft and ductile. GB/T 2072 sets Vickers limits at gauges to 0.25 mm; thicker strip is agreed per order.

N4 has no exact Western counterpart. Note that GB/T 5235 carries separate grades for the familiar commercial alloys: N7 corresponds to Nickel 200, and N5 to Nickel 201.

Pack builders spot-weld N4 strip into cell tabs, busbars, and terminal links, usually 0.1 mm to 0.2 mm thick. Conductivity climbs as impurities fall, so a 99.9% strip wastes less energy as heat than nickel-plated steel of equal section.
Commercially pure nickel resists sodium hydroxide at every concentration, up to the molten state, and a black oxide film slows attack further in strong caustic. Evaporator internals and vessel hardware draw on that. Chlorates in the liquor raise corrosion rates sharply.
Plating shops put high-purity nickel into the anode and plater-bar duty, where dissolved impurities would contaminate the bath and spoil deposit quality. Tight copper, iron, and silicon ceilings keep that load low. We slit narrow widths for anode baskets.
Instrument makers choose N4 strip for resistance thermometer elements, electronic vacuum components, and magnetostrictive parts that turn magnetic fields into movement. Resistivity falls as purity rises, which matters wherever a predictable resistance-temperature relationship carries the measurement.
