Stainless Steel 304L strips are narrow, flat-rolled lengths of low-carbon austenitic stainless steel. Grade 304L limits carbon to 0.030% maximum, compared with 0.080% for Grade 304. That cap stops chromium carbides from forming along grain boundaries during welding, so joints hold their corrosion resistance without further heat treatment. Chromium runs 18.0-20.0%, and nickel around 8.0-12.0%.
