What are Stainless Steel 310S Strips?

Stainless Steel 310S strips are flat-rolled lengths of an austenitic chromium-nickel grade built for high-temperature service. The alloy carries 24.0-26.0% chromium and 19.0-22.0% nickel, which lets it resist oxidation in dry air up to 1093 °C (2000 °F). Carbon is at 0.08% maximum, well under the 0.25% ceiling of standard 310, so the welded strip keeps its grain boundaries clean. Density is 8.0 g/cm³, and toughness holds down to cryogenic temperatures. It is commonly used in heat exchangers and food processing equipment.

We slit every 310S strip in our own facility in Mumbai. The grade anchors the heat-resistant end of our stainless steel strips range. Buyers pick any width between 3 mm and 2000 mm, in annealed condition, with BA, 2B, Scotch-Brite, Matte, or Matte PVC surfaces. A documented quality trail follows each coil from source stock to the final certificate.

Chemical Composition of SS 310S Strips

Chromium drives the performance of this grade. At 24.0-26.0%, it forms the stable oxide scale that protects UNS S31008 strip through furnace cycling. Full ASME SA-240 limits appear below.

Element Composition (%)
Carbon (C) 0.08 max
Manganese (Mn) 2.00 max
Phosphorus (P) 0.045 max
Sulphur (S) 0.030 max
Silicon (Si) 1.50 max
Chromium (Cr) 24.0 - 26.0
Nickel (Ni) 19.0 - 22.0
Iron (Fe) Balance

Mechanical Properties of Stainless Steel 310S Strips

Annealed Type 310S strip provides a minimum tensile strength of 515 MPa and remains workable for forming and punching. It is supplied only in an annealed condition, not as a temper-rolled grade.

Equivalent Grades of Stainless Steel 310S Strips

International buyers can match Stainless Steel 310S winding strip from our stock against each regional designation in the table below. SUS 310S and AISI 310S enquiries draw from the same UNS S31008 material.

Country / Standard Designation
USA (UNS) S31008
Europe (EN) X8CrNi25-21
Germany (W.Nr) 1.4845
Japan (JIS) SUS 310S
South Korea (KS) STS 310S

Industrial Applications of SS 310S Strips

These 3 industries use most of the Stainless Steel 310S Slitting Coil. Buyers in each choose the grade for oxidation resistance and creep strength at service temperatures where 304 can't keep up.

Stainless Steel 310S Strips used in Furnace and Kiln Components

Furnace and Kiln Components

Furnace builders form 310S stainless strip into muffle liners, radiant tube supports, baffles, and conveyor belt links. Continuous exposure at 1093 °C (2000 °F) in dry air leaves the protective scale intact. Kiln shrouds and burner surrounds take the same strip, though we advise derating where sharp thermal cycling between firings is routine.

Stainless Steel 310S Strips used in Heat Exchanger and Thermowell Components

Heat Exchanger and Thermowell Components

Heat exchanger fabricators specify Alloy 310S strip for baffles, spacer bands, and sealing elements exposed to hot flue gas. Thermowells sheathed in the grade shield sensors inside boilers and process heaters. Creep strength matters here more than hardness. Thin slit strip, held to ±0.1 mm, wraps tube bundles without gaps.

Stainless Steel 310S Strips used in Food Processing and Chemical Equipment

Food Processing and Chemical Equipment

Food processing plants fit SS 310S strip in baking bands, roaster linings, and fryer trim where product contact meets sustained heat. Nickel at 19.0-22.0% keeps the surface stable through hot alkaline cleaning cycles. Chemical equipment makers run the same strip around reformer internals and combustion air preheaters.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Stainless Steel 310S Strips used for?

Stainless Steel 310S strips are used in furnace components, kiln linings, heat exchanger baffles, thermowells, and food processing equipment. Any assembly needing oxidation resistance up to 1093 °C (2000 °F) suits the grade.

What is the difference between 310 and 310S Strips?

The main difference between 310 and 310S strips is carbon. Grade 310 permits 0.25% maximum while 310S caps it at 0.08%, which means welded joints don't sensitise during long spells at temperature.

What thicknesses and widths are available for SS 310S Strips?

We supply SS 310S strip from 0.03 mm to 5 mm thick and in any width from 3 mm to 2000 mm, slit to ±0.1 mm. Coil inner diameters run from 150 mm to 610 mm, with outer diameters up to 1800 mm.

Can SS 310S Strips be welded?

Yes. 310S ultra-high-temperature strips weld cleanly with TIG, MIG, and resistance methods. The low carbon limit protects the heat-affected zone, so most fabricators skip post-weld heat treatment.

What is the difference between SS 304 and SS 310S Strips?

The difference between SS 304 and SS 310S strips comes down to alloy content. Grade 310S holds 24.0-26.0% chromium and 19.0-22.0% nickel against 18-20% and 8-10.5% in 304, so it serves continuously at 1093 °C (2000 °F) where 304 tops out near 870 °C.

Where can I source Stainless Steel 310S Strips in India?
