What are Stainless Steel 410 Coils?

Stainless Steel 410 coils are flat-rolled martensitic stainless steel holding 11.50 to 13.50% chromium with 0.08 to 0.15% carbon. The relatively higher carbon content distinguishes Grade 410 from ferritic stainless steels. The grade hardens by quenching and tempering, trading some corrosion resistance for strength and wear life. It stays magnetic in every condition and, with no nickel requirement, costs less than most stainless grades. These coils are typically used for high-strength, wear-resistant parts like fasteners, valves, and cutlery.

As a reliable 410 stainless steel coil supplier, our warehouse carries these coils as ready stock, sourced from reputed primary mills and slit to width in-house. Material ships annealed, soft enough for blanking and forming ahead of any hardening cycle, with test documentation on request.

Chemical Composition of SS 410 Coils

Chromium at 11.50 to 13.50% gives these stainless steel coils their passive, corrosion-resistant surface. Carbon is equally important. ASTM A240 sets a 0.08% minimum, which enables the grade to be hardened by heat treatment.

Element Composition (% by weight)
Carbon (C) 0.08 to 0.15
Manganese (Mn) 1.00 max
Phosphorus (P) 0.040 max
Sulphur (S) 0.030 max
Silicon (Si) 1.00 max
Chromium (Cr) 11.50 to 13.50
Nickel (Ni) 0.75 max
Iron (Fe) Balance

Mechanical Properties of Stainless Steel 410 Coils

Annealed 410 Stainless Steel Coils reach a minimum tensile strength of 450 MPa with 20% elongation. Fabricators typically blank and form the material in the annealed condition before heat treatment, then oil-quench and temper finished parts to roughly 40 HRC.

Property Value (Annealed)
Tensile Strength, minimum
450 MPa (65 ksi)
Yield Strength (0.2% offset), minimum
205 MPa (30 ksi)
Elongation in 50 mm, minimum
20%
Hardness, maximum

Industrial Applications of Stainless Steel 410 Coils

These 6 industries use most of the SS 410 coils we supply. Buyers select the grade for hardenability, wear resistance, and moderate corrosion protection at low cost. The following are some examples of applications of 410 stainless steel coil.

Stainless Steel 410 Coils used in Automotive and Transport

Automotive and Transport

Automotive plants blank 410 SS Coils into brake components, clutch parts, and stamped brackets. The feedstock forms easily in the annealed state, then heat treats to the hardness those wear parts demand, keeping material spend low.

Stainless Steel 410 Coils used in Cutlery and Kitchenware

Cutlery and Kitchenware

Cutlery makers stamp knife blanks, scissors, and utensils from SS 410 Coils. The blanks harden after forming to take and hold a working edge, and the 12% chromium surface stands up to food acids and repeated washing.

Stainless Steel 410 Coils used in Valve and Pump Components

Valve and Pump Components

Valve builders blank seats, plates, and wear rings from 410 coil stock. Hardened parts resist erosion from steam, water, and mildly corrosive process flows, so the grade suits trim that sees constant throttling.

Stainless Steel 410 Coils used in Petroleum and Chemical Processing

Petroleum and Chemical Processing

Refineries fit 410 stainless steel internals in distillation columns, including tray valves and caps. The grade handles hot, sulphur-bearing hydrocarbon streams where carbon steel corrodes quickly, and austenitic grades cost too much.

Stainless Steel 410 Coils used in Fasteners and Hardware

Fasteners and Hardware

Fastener plants roll and blank screws, washers, and spring clips from 410 SS Coils. Parts gain final strength in the quench-and-temper cycle, giving hardware that carries load and shrugs off atmospheric rust.

Stainless Steel 410 Coils used in General Engineering

General Engineering

Engineering shops press 410 coils into machine parts, wear strips, and tooling components. The grade forms without fuss when annealed, and its heat-treat response lets one stock material cover jobs needing varied hardness levels.

Frequently Asked Questions

What thickness and width range is available for Stainless Steel 410 Coils?

We supply Stainless Steel 410 Coils in thicknesses from 0.03 mm to 5 mm and widths up to 2000 mm, with coil ID from 150 mm to 610 mm and OD up to 1800 mm. Custom widths are slit at ±0.1 mm.

Can Stainless Steel 410 Coils be hardened by heat treatment?

Yes, Stainless Steel 410 Coils can be hardened by heat treatment. The martensitic structure responds to oil quenching and tempering, taking finished parts to roughly 40 HRC; we supply the coils annealed so they form easily first.

Are Stainless Steel 410 Coils magnetic?

Yes, Stainless Steel 410 Coils are magnetic. The grade is ferromagnetic in both the annealed condition (ferrite plus carbides) and the hardened condition (martensite).

What is the difference between SS 410 Coils and SS 430 Coils?

The main difference between SS 410 Coils and SS 430 Coils is heat-treat response. SS 410 is martensitic and hardens by quenching, while SS 430 is ferritic, carries higher chromium, and cannot be hardened that way.

Do you provide mill test certificates for SS 410 Coils?

Yes, we provide mill test certificates for SS 410 Coils. EN 10204 Type 3.1 / 3.2 mill test certificates are issued on request with every order.

Where can I source Stainless Steel 410 Coils in India?
