Monel foils are thin, cold-rolled sections of a nickel-copper solid-solution alloy, roughly two-thirds nickel and one-third copper. The grade takes no strength from heat treatment. It work-hardens instead, gaining hardness with every rolling pass, and annealing brings it back to a soft, formable state before dispatch. That combination lets a foil a few hundredths of a millimetre thick fold and stamp around tight seal geometries without cracking. Corrosion performance is the reason buyers pay the nickel premium: the alloy shrugs off seawater, brine, and hydrofluoric acid, three environments where stainless steel struggles.
