Inconel 625 strip is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum-niobium alloy rolled and slit to precise dimensions. A minimum of 58% nickel, 20 to 23% chromium, and 8 to 10% molybdenum give the grade its strength. Niobium and molybdenum harden the matrix by solid solution rather than ageing, so the strip holds its properties up to about 980 °C. Its corrosion resistance in chloride and acidic media suits bellows, springs, and gaskets.
We process each Inconel coil on our own slitting lines, supplying Alloy 625 strip in widths from 3 mm to 2000 mm to ±0.1 mm. Stock is held soft annealed and cold worked to full hard as needed, and every dispatch carries traceable documentation.
Temper describes how much cold work the strip carries after its last anneal, and in Alloy 625 it decides whether a coil draws deep in the press or springs back off the tool. We supply six conditions, from soft annealed through to full hard, the same ladder shown in the mechanical table on this page. ASTM B443 covers the annealed condition alone, as Grade 1. Every harder condition is a mill temper, which we roll to tensile ranges agreed at order stage and record on the EN 10204 mill test certificate.
Soft annealed strip is the one condition on this page with a standard behind it: the certificate cites ASTM B443 Grade 1 directly, with 827 MPa minimum tensile, 414 MPa yield, and 30% elongation. Hardness sits at 88 to 95 HRB. Fabricators pick this temper for deep-drawn bellows convolutions, folded gasket profiles, and any part that must take a tight radius without cracking. On narrow slit widths we interleave soft coils with paper, because the annealed surface picks up pressure marks faster than any hard row.
Quarter hard strip answers the complaint we hear most often about soft material: blanked parts that pick up coil set and refuse to sit flat. One light rolling pass lifts tensile towards 930 to 1100 MPa and hardness to 98 HRB up to 22 HRC. The forming window stays close to annealed. It still accepts moderate draws, 90 degree bends across the grain, and roll-formed profiles, which makes it the pick for shallow pressings and formed seal rings.
Half hard is the temper we quote when a stamping shop asks for strength and formability in the same coil. We roll it to an agreed range of 1030 to 1240 MPa at 22 to 30 HRC, and those figures go onto the certificate order by order because no published standard sets them. Simple press-brake bends still form cleanly. In service the condition holds its shape under vibration, so it goes into contact fingers, retaining clips, and stamped seal components.
Three-quarter hard material shows its character on the slitting line before it reaches a press: the strip leaves the knives with a tighter, cleaner burr than the softer rows, while camber needs closer watching at narrow widths. Tensile runs towards 1170 to 1380 MPa at 28 to 34 HRC. Forming stops at gentle bends over generous radii. Industrialists specify this row for spring washers, snap bands, and flat blanks that see no shaping beyond a light form.
Hard temper strip goes into flat springs, diaphragms, and snap-acting discs that must return to shape after repeated deflection. Cold rolling carries tensile towards 1310 to 1520 MPa with hardness of 33 to 40 HRC. Springback at this strength level is pronounced, so press tools have to overbend for the strip to hold an angle, a point worth settling with the toolroom before the coil ships. Blanking and piercing stay practical; drawing does not.
Full hard strip is the wrong choice for any part that still needs shaping, and we steer engineers away from it at enquiry stage rather than after a cracked pressing. We supply this condition, rolled towards 1450 to 1650 MPa at 38 to 45 HRC, for flat blanks, shims, and constant-stress spring elements alone. At foil gauges the certificate proves temper by tensile test or microhardness, since thin strip cannot take a Rockwell impression. Where a design needs full hard strength plus a guaranteed elongation minimum under a temper standard, grade 301 stainless to ASTM A666 is the honest recommendation.
