What are Nickel 201 Coils?

Nickel 201 Coils are continuously wound, cold- or hot-rolled low-carbon commercially pure nickel, supplied on coil for press feeding. The grade holds 99.0% minimum nickel and caps carbon at 0.02%, so grain boundaries stay free of graphite above 315 °C, where standard-carbon nickel embrittles. Caustic soda leaves the surface untouched at every concentration; thermal and electrical conductivity stay high, and the metal melts between 1435 and 1446 °C. These Nickel Coils are widely specified in food processing units and electronic components.

As a reputed Nickel alloy Coil supplier, we slit UNS N02201 coil to any width from 3 mm to 2000 mm, and material ships annealed to ASTM B162 as Nickel 201 HR Coils or CR Coils, each with a mill test certificate.

Chemical Composition of Nickel 201 Coils

Carbon is the key element in Nickel Alloy 201 Coils. ASTM B162 caps it at 0.02%, the ceiling that stops graphitisation in hot service.

Element Composition (%)
Nickel (Ni) 99.0 min
Carbon (C) 0.02 max
Manganese (Mn) 0.35 max
Iron (Fe) 0.40 max
Silicon (Si) 0.35 max
Copper (Cu) 0.25 max
Sulphur (S) 0.01 max

Mechanical Properties of Nickel 201 Coils

Annealed Alloy 201 Coils pair a 345 MPa minimum tensile strength with 40% elongation. B162 applies its yield minimum from 0.51 mm upward; figures for thinner gauges are indicative.

Property Value
Tensile Strength, minimum
345 MPa (50 ksi)
Yield Strength (0.2% offset), minimum
83 MPa (12 ksi)
Elongation in 50 mm, minimum
40%

Industrial Applications of Nickel 201 Coils

These 4 industries use the Low Carbon Nickel Alloy Coils we dispatch, choosing the grade where heat above 315 °C, caustic media, or product purity rules out low-quality stock.

Nickel 201 Coils used in Chemical Processing

Chemical Processing

Chemical plants use Alloy 201 Coils in heat exchanger components, reactor linings, and salt handling equipment. Wound stock feeds fabrication lines without flatness correction, and the low-carbon chemistry keeps welded joints ductile through years of thermal cycling. Dry chlorine and fluorine systems run on the same coil.

Nickel 201 Coils used in Caustic Soda and Alkali Production

Caustic Soda and Alkali Production

Caustic plants build evaporator shells, heating surfaces, and crystalliser internals from Nickel 201 coil because sodium hydroxide barely touches commercially pure nickel, hot or cold. Above 315 °C, the carbon cap matters; evaporator walls hold their ductility where a standard-carbon grade would graphitise and crack.

Nickel 201 Coils used in Electrical and Electronic Components

Electrical and Electronic Components

Component makers stamp terminals, lead wire tabs, and battery hardware straight from a slit Ni 201 coil. High electrical and thermal conductivity carries current with little loss, and the grade takes resistance welds cleanly. Narrow widths, down to 3 mm, drop into progressive presses without secondary trimming.

Nickel 201 Coils used in Food Processing

Food Processing

Food equipment builders shape contact panels, seal faces, and hygienic fittings from this coil. Hot alkaline cleaning cycles neither stain nor leach the nickel surface, so product purity holds across shifts. Annealed stock draws and folds easily, which shortens tooling trials on new equipment lines.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Nickel 200 Coils and Nickel 201 Coils?

The difference between Nickel 200 coils and Nickel 201 coils depends on carbon, 0.15% against 0.02% maximum. The lower cap prevents graphitisation, so Nickel 201 serves continuously above 315 °C.

What thickness and width range is available for Nickel 201 Coils?

We stock Nickel 201 coils from 0.03 mm to 5 mm thick and slit widths from 3 mm to 2000 mm at ±0.1 mm.

What standard covers Nickel 201 Coils?

Nickel 201 coils are covered by ASTM B162 and its ASME adoption SB-162.

What is the maximum service temperature for Nickel 201 Coils?

Nickel 201 coils run continuously to around ~600 °C in pressure service under ASME rules, and the grade is the default pick above 315 °C.

Can Nickel 201 Coils be custom slit to specific widths?

Yes, Nickel 201 coils can be custom slit to any width between 3 mm and 2000 mm at ±0.1 mm, with coil ID from 150 mm to 610 mm and OD up to 1800 mm.

What is the lead time for Nickel 201 Coils?

The lead time for Nickel 201 coils is 4 to 5 days from ready stock, dropping to 2 to 3 days for urgent dispatch.

Where can I source Ni 201 Coils in India?
