What are Stainless Steel 410 Foils?

Stainless Steel 410 foils are thin-gauge flat products rolled from a martensitic chromium steel holding 11.50 to 13.50% chromium and 0.08 to 0.15% carbon. That carbon minimum separates the grade from austenitic stainless steel foils. Grade 410 hardens by quenching and tempering to roughly 40 HRC, trading a little corrosion resistance for improved wear resistance. The foil remains magnetic in both the annealed and hardened conditions, and with no nickel requirement, it undercuts 304 and 316 on price. Stainless Steel 410 foils are typically used for heat-treat tool wrap, masking, and high-temperature protection in industrial furnaces.

As a reliable stainless steel 410 foil supplier, every 410 stainless steel foil we provide starts as a source coil and leaves our Mumbai works slit to any width from 3 mm to 2000 mm. Supply condition is annealed and soft, ready for blanking, etching, or forming ahead of heat treatment, and our quality team tracks each batch from inward inspection through dispatch.

Chemical Composition of SS 410 Foils

Chromium between 11.50 and 13.50% builds the passive film on SS 410 Foils. The 0.08% carbon floor is equally deliberate, since that is what lets stamped parts harden in the quench.

Element Composition (% by weight)
Carbon (C) 0.08-0.15% max
Manganese (Mn) 1.00 max
Phosphorus (P) 0.040 max
Sulphur (S) 0.030 max
Silicon (Si) 1.00 max
Chromium (Cr) 11.50 to 13.50
Nickel (Ni) 0.75 max
Iron (Fe) Balance

Mechanical Properties of Stainless Steel 410 Foils

Annealed SA 240 Type 410 foil blanks and forms readily at 415 MPa minimum tensile strength, then oil-quenches and tempers to roughly 40 HRC. Below 0.5 mm gauge, tabulated values are indicative.

Property Value (Annealed)
Tensile Strength, minimum
450 MPa (60 ksi)
Yield Strength (0.2% offset), minimum
205 MPa (30 ksi)
Elongation in 50 mm, minimum
20%
Hardness, maximum
217 HBW / 96 HRB

Equivalent Grades of SS 410 Foils

Procurement teams ordering against a regional code can match our UNS S41000 foil in the table below. Each AISI 410 foil we slit answers every designation listed.

Country / Standard Designation
USA (UNS) S41000
Europe (EN) X12Cr13
Germany (W.Nr) 1.4006
Japan (JIS) SUS410
China (GB) 12Cr13
Russia (GOST) 12Kh13

Industrial Applications of Stainless Steel 410 Foils

These 4 industries buy most of the 410 stainless foil from our slitting lines, choosing the grade for hardenability, wear resistance, and magnetic response at a modest price.

Stainless Steel 410 Foils used in Automotive Components

Automotive Components

Gasket makers and valve builders order 410 SS foils for cylinder-head shims, exhaust gaskets, and flapper valves. The foil stamps cleanly in its annealed state, hardens where wear demands it, and holds sealing pressure against hot exhaust gas at a cost austenitic grades cannot match.

Stainless Steel 410 Foils used in Springs and Precision Stamped Parts

Springs and Precision Stamped Parts

Flat springs, washers, and snap discs stamped from Alloy 410 foil pick up their final hardness in the customer's quench-and-temper cycle. One annealed feedstock can be heat-treated to achieve different hardness levels, and the ferromagnetic response suits relay and sensor components too.

Stainless Steel 410 Foils used in Petrochemical and Refining

Petrochemical and Refining

Refineries specify 410 stainless foil for shims, spacers, and sealing elements around pumps and column internals. The grade withstands hot, sulphur-bearing hydrocarbon streams that damage carbon steel, and its 12% chromium surface delivers that protection without the nickel surcharge of higher alloys.

Stainless Steel 410 Foils used in Power Generation and Turbines

Power Generation and Turbines

Turbine assemblers pack UNS S41000 foil as shim stock between casings, blade roots, and gland housings. The material stays dimensionally stable in hot steam, and hardened 410 resists the fretting wear that loosens shimmed joints under constant vibration.

Stainless Steel 410 Foils Price

Stainless steel 410 foil price in India is around ₹170 to ₹180 per kg, which works out to about $2.05 to $2.17 per kg. Thin gauges, narrow slit widths, and special finishes generally increase the price compared with standard coil.

Frequently Asked Questions

What thickness range is available for SS 410 Foils?

We supply SS 410 foils in any thickness from 0.03 mm to 0.08 mm and slit widths from 3 mm to 2000 mm at ±0.1 mm. For heavier flat-rolled stock, see our Stainless Steel 410 Coils page.

Are Stainless Steel 410 Foils magnetic?

Yes, Stainless Steel 410 Foils are strongly magnetic. The martensitic structure is ferromagnetic in both the annealed and hardened conditions, which suits solenoid, relay, and magnetic sensing work.

Can Stainless Steel 410 Foils be hardened after forming?

Yes, Stainless Steel 410 foils can be hardened after forming. Stamped parts are austenitised, oil quenched, and tempered to reach roughly 40 HRC, which is why we ship the foil annealed and soft.

What is the difference between SS 410 Foils and SS 304 Foils?

The difference between SS 410 foils and SS 304 foils comes down to structure. SS 410 is martensitic, magnetic, and heat treatable, while SS 304 is austenitic with better corrosion resistance but no quench-hardening response. Pick 410 when hardness and wear life outweigh corrosion duty.

Which finishes do you offer on 410 stainless Foils?

On 410 stainless foils we offer BA (Bright Annealed), 2B, Matte, Matte PVC, and Scotch-Brite finishes, with slit, mill, deburred, or round edges to suit stamping and winding work.

Where can I source Stainless Steel 410 Foils in India?

You can source Stainless Steel 410 Foils in India from us at Riddhi Siddhi Impex. Our Mumbai and Taloja warehouses dispatch ex-stock orders in 4 to 5 days, or 2 to 3 days when urgent. Call or WhatsApp us, and we will provide quotations within 24 hours.
