Stainless Steel 316L foils are thin, flat-rolled sections of low-carbon austenitic chromium-nickel-molybdenum steel. The grade carries 16.0-18.0% chromium and 10.0-14.0% nickel. Its 2.00-3.00% molybdenum blocks the pitting that attacks plain chromium-nickel grades in chloride service. Carbon capped at 0.030% keeps welded foil free of sensitisation, so no post-weld anneal is needed. For gaskets, diaphragms, liners, bellows, designers usually pick these stainless steel foils wherever formability and chemical resistance have to coexist in a thin section.
