What are Inconel 600 Foils?

Inconel 600 foils are thin, cold-rolled foil made from a nickel-chromium-iron alloy holding a minimum 72% nickel,14 to 17% chromium, and 6 to 10% iron. The high nickel base resists chloride stress-corrosion cracking and caustic attack, while chromium handles oxidation. The alloy serves up to roughly 1090°C in furnace parts, chemical plant linings, and reactor components.

We process every Inconel 600 alloy foil in-house on our own slitting lines. Material leaves in annealed soft condition to ASTM B168, cut to any width between 3 mm and 2000 mm. We supply BA, 2B, Matte finishes, Matte PVC, and Scotch-Brite. Edge options include slit, deburred, and round edges. A documented quality system governs each order.

Specifications of Inconel 600 Foils

As premier Inconel 600 foil suppliers, we provide ASTM B168 material in annealed condition, with five surface finishes and four edge options, supplied in coil and precision slit to requirement.

Chemical Composition of Inconel 600 Foils

Nickel defines this grade. UNS N06600 foil carries a 72% minimum, which drives resistance to reducing acids and caustic media, while chromium at 14 to 17% forms the oxide that resists scaling. The full ASTM B168 composition appears below.

Element Composition (%)
Nickel (Ni) 72.0 min
Chromium (Cr) 14.0 to 17.0
Iron (Fe) 6.0 to 10.0
Carbon (C) 0.15 max
Manganese (Mn) 1.00 max
Sulphur (S) 0.015 max
Silicon (Si) 0.50 max
Copper (Cu) 0.50 max
Phosphorus (P) -

Mechanical Properties of Inconel 600 Foils

Annealed Alloy 600 foil has a minimum tensile strength of 550 MPa and 30% minimum elongation, so it draws and forms without cracking. Under ASTM B168, yield-strength minimums apply to material 0.51 mm and thicker; at foil gauge the tabulated values are indicative.

Property Value
Tensile Strength, minimum
550 MPa (80 ksi)
Yield Strength (0.2% offset), minimum
240 MPa (35 ksi)
Elongation in 50 mm, minimum
30%

Industrial Applications of Inconel 600 Foils

These 5 industries utilise most of the Inconel 600 foils we slit. Buyers select the grade for oxidation and corrosion resistance and stability at temperature.

Inconel 600 Foils used in Chemical Processing

Chemical Processing

Chemical plants line reactors and heat exchangers with Alloy 600 foil where caustic and chloride streams destroy stainless steel. The grade resists sodium hydroxide across all concentrations and resist high-purity water corrosion. It also serves as a gasket and diaphragm stock.

Inconel 600 Foils used in Aerospace

Aerospace

Aerospace builders specify AMS 5540 foil for exhaust seals, honeycomb structures, and thermal barriers near hot sections. The alloy keeps its strength and oxidation resistance through repeated thermal cycles. Foil slit to ±0.1 mm bonds or forms without trimming.

Inconel 600 Foils used in Nuclear

Nuclear

Nuclear component makers use Inconel 600 foil for reactor internals, control-rod guides, and steam generator hardware. Resistance to chloride ion stress-corrosion cracking and to high-purity water keeps parts intact through long service intervals. Tight gauge control aids clearance work.

Inconel 600 Foils used in Heat Treating and Furnace Components

Heat Treating and Furnace Components

Heat treatment shops fit Alloy 600 foil into muffles, retorts, radiant tubes, and thermocouple protection. The grade holds scaling resistance up to around 1090 °C and does not embrittle under repeated heating and cooling. Linings and baffles outlast carbon steel.

Inconel 600 Foils used in Power Generation

Power Generation

Power plants apply Inconel 600 foil in gas turbine seals, boiler components, and superheater hardware exposed to hot flue gas. The nickel-chromium matrix resists oxidation and carburisation through long high-temperature runs. Custom-slit widths let fabricators form seals that fit.

Frequently Asked Questions

What thickness range is available for Inconel 600 Foils?

We slit Inconel 600 foil in thicknesses from 0.03 mm to 0.08 mm and widths from 3 mm to 2000 mm, with a tolerance of ±0.1 mm. Thickness, width, and surface finish are supplied according to your specifications.

Which standard specification covers Inconel 600 Foils?

Inconel 600 foils are covered by ASTM B168 / ASME SB-168 for flat product and by AMS 5540 for aerospace-grade material. We supply to whichever standard your order needs.

Can Inconel 600 Foils be custom slit to specific widths?

Yes, we precision-slit Inconel 600 foils to any width from 3 mm to 2000 mm on our own lines, holding a width tolerance of ±0.1 mm. Custom slitting is our core service.

What finishes are available for Inconel 600 Foils?

Some of the finishes we offer are BA (Bright Annealed), 2B, Matte, Matte PVC, and Scotch-Brite. Deburred and round edges suit winding and gasket work where a sharp slit edge would mark adjacent parts.

What is the typical lead time for Inconel 600 Foil orders?

Standard dispatch runs 4 to 5 days from ready stock, and urgent orders can leave in 2 to 3 days. We hold Inconel 600 foil inventory to support short lead times
