About Stainless Steel Shims

Stainless steel shims are thin flat spacers fitted between mating surfaces to fill gaps, level machine bases, and correct alignment during assembly. A fitter slips one behind a bearing housing or under a machine foot to true up the fit. Chromium above 10.5% builds a self-repairing oxide film, so the shim holds its thickness where plain steel packing would corrode and loosen. Buyers also call the product SS shims, packing shims, or stainless steel shim stock.

Every shim we offer is precision-slit from full-width coil at our own facility. Thickness runs from 0.03 mm to 5 mm. Material ships flat or as a stainless steel shim stock roll for convenient trimming on site. Deburred and round edges are available where specified. Ready stock at our Taloja and Mumbai warehouses covers fast-moving grades, and mill documentation provided upon request follows each batch from source coil to slit width.

Grades We Supply

We manufacture stainless steel shims in 15 grades: 10 austenitic, 4 ferritic, and 1 martensitic. The family sets the corrosion behaviour, and the grade sets the duty.

A

Austenitic Stainless Steel Shims

10 grades

Austenitic grades dominate shim orders because they pair corrosion resistance with predictable flatness after slitting.

Stainless Steel 301 Shims

Rapid work-hardening gives Stainless Steel 301 Shims their spring-like stiffness, with harder tempers available on order.

Stainless Steel 304 Shims

Most orders on this page land on Stainless Steel 304 Shims: balanced corrosion resistance, wide availability, sensible cost.

Stainless Steel 304L Shims

This low-carbon variant welds without carbide precipitation, making Stainless Steel 304L Shims the pick for fabricated assemblies.

Stainless Steel 309 Shims

Furnace doors and kiln hardware carry Stainless Steel 309 Shims for their scaling resistance.

View grade

Stainless Steel 310S Shims

Sustained high-temperature spacing in burner and radiant-tube assemblies relies on Stainless Steel 310S Shims.

View grade

Stainless Steel 316L Shims

Chloride-bearing washdown zones call for Stainless Steel 316L Shims: molybdenum handles pitting, low carbon protects welded packs.

View grade

Stainless Steel 317L Shims

With more molybdenum again, Stainless Steel 317L Shims move into scrubber and harsher chemical duty.

Stainless Steel 321 Shims

Titanium stabilisation lets Stainless Steel 321 Shims sit against hot flanges without intergranular attack.

Stainless Steel 347 Shims

In Stainless Steel 347 Shims, niobium provides the stabilisation, suiting refinery and power plant joints at temperature.

Stainless Steel 904L Shims

Severe sulphuric acid service is where Stainless Steel 904L Shims earn their premium, backed by copper and high nickel.

M

Martensitic Stainless Steel Shims

1 grade

Martensitic material trades some corrosion resistance for hardness gained through heat treatment.

Surface Finishes

Three finishes cover most shim orders: BA, 2B, Matte. The gauge and annealing route decide which applies.

Stainless Steel Shims BA (Bright Annealed) finishBA

BA (Bright Annealed)

A bright annealed surface stays reflective and oxide-free, suited to instrument shims and visible assemblies.

Stainless Steel Shims 2B finish2B

2B

Cold rolling followed by annealing and pickling gives the smooth 2B surface most SS shims ship with.

Stainless Steel Shims Matte finishMatte

Matte

Matte-finished shim stock hides handling marks and keeps glare down in exposed positions.

Industries We Serve for Stainless Steel Shims

3 sectors specify the stainless steel shims issued from our warehouses. Grade choice follows corrosion environment and joint load.

Stainless Steel Shims used in General Engineering and Machinery Alignment

General Engineering and Machinery Alignment

Millwrights level pumps, motors, and gearboxes on Stainless Steel 304 Shims. Where a shim doubles as a spring element, work-hardened 301 material resists compression set, and Stainless Steel 410 Shims cover wear points between sliding surfaces.

Stainless Steel Shims used in Food Processing and Pharmaceutical Equipment

Food Processing and Pharmaceutical Equipment

Dairies and pharmaceutical plants shim conveyor frames and filling machines with Stainless Steel 304 Shims; daily washdown leaves them unmarked. Stronger cleaning agents and brines push buyers up to Stainless Steel 316L Shims. BA or 2B finishes suit hygienic zones.

Stainless Steel Shims used in Chemical Processing and Petrochemical

Chemical Processing and Petrochemical

Process plants pack flange gaps and level agitator drives with molybdenum-bearing grades. Stainless Steel 317L Shims stand up to scrubber condensate, and Stainless Steel 904L Shims take sulphuric acid exposure that would pit standard austenitic material.

Certifications of Stainless Steel Shims

Riddhi Siddhi Impex pairs three ISO certifications with heat-level traceability on every stainless steel shim order.

3.1EN 10204

Mill Test Certificate

An EN 10204 Type 3.1 mill test certificate accompanies each consignment, recording chemistry and mechanical values against the mill heat. Type 3.2 is available on request.

9001ISO

ISO 9001

Quality management runs under ISO 9001:2015, from inward coil inspection through slitting to final dispatch.

14001ISO

ISO 14001

Our ISO 14001:2015 certification covers environmental management across storage, processing, and material movement.

45001ISO

ISO 45001

ISO 45001:2018 governs occupational health and safety through our warehouse and slitting operations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the HS Code for Stainless Steel Shims?

Stainless steel shims slit from narrow strip fall under HS heading 7220, covering flat-rolled stainless products under 600 mm wide. Material 600 mm or wider classifies under heading 7219. Your customs broker should confirm the final subheading.

Can you manufacture Stainless Steel Shims to custom thickness and width?

Yes. We slit SS shim stock from 0.03 mm to 5 mm thick and any width from 3 mm to 2000 mm, with width tolerance held at ±0.1 mm.

Where can I buy Stainless Steel Shims in India?
