What are Stainless Steel 310S Coils?

Stainless Steel 310S coil is a continuous flat-rolled length of a low-carbon austenitic grade built around 25% chromium and 20% nickel. That heavy alloy loading forms a stable oxide scale, so the steel resists oxidation up to 1150 °C in continuous service. Carbon is at 0.08% maximum, roughly a third of the standard 310, which curbs carbide precipitation in prolonged heat. The grade also holds toughness down to -270 °C, which suits cryogenic and LNG equipment.

As a reliable Stainless Steel 310S Coils supplier, we stock Stainless Steel Coils sourced from reputed primary mills, then slit them to width on our own lines to ±0.1 mm. Material leaves in annealed condition to ASTM A240, in thickness from 0.03 mm to 5 mm, and coil ID between 150 mm and 610 mm. Every batch ships with EN 10204 mill test certificates on request.

Chemical Composition of Stainless Steel 310S Coils

Chromium and nickel define this grade. The 24 to 26% chromium builds the oxidation-resistant scale, while 19 to 22% nickel stabilises the austenite and lifts creep strength at red heat. All values below follow ASTM A240 for UNS S31008.

Element Composition (%)
Carbon (C) 0.08 max
Manganese (Mn) 2.00 max
Phosphorus (P) 0.045 max
Sulphur (S) 0.030 max
Silicon (Si) 1.50 max
Chromium (Cr) 24.0-26.0
Nickel (Ni) 19.0-22.0
Iron (Fe) Balance

Mechanical Properties of Stainless Steel 310S Coils

Annealed 310S coils reach a minimum tensile strength of 515 MPa with 40% elongation, so they cold-form and roll cleanly. The values below are minimums per ASTM A240.

Property Value
Tensile Strength, minimum
515 MPa (75 ksi)
Yield Strength (0.2% offset), minimum
205 MPa (30 ksi)
Elongation in 50 mm, minimum
40%

Industrial Applications of Stainless Steel 310S Coils

310S stainless steel coils are used wherever metal must survive sustained heat in an oxidising atmosphere. These 4 industries specify the 310S coil stock we supply, each choosing the grade for oxidation resistance and high-temperature strength.

Stainless Steel 310S Coils used in Furnace and Heat Treatment Equipment

Furnace and Heat Treatment Equipment

Furnace builders line muffles, radiant tubes, and retort bodies with 310S coil. The grade resists scaling at bright-red heat and keeps its shape under repeated thermal cycling. Where leaner steels spall and thin, 310S holds section, so charge trays and roller hearths last far longer.

Stainless Steel 310S Coils used in Petrochemical and Chemical Processing

Petrochemical and Chemical Processing

Refineries form 310S coil into reformer internals, flare tips, and thermowells exposed to hot process gas. Sustained heat can precipitate sigma phase between 600 and 950 °C, so operators size wall thickness accordingly. The low carbon also keeps the weld zones sound.

Stainless Steel 310S Coils used in Power Generation

Power Generation

Power stations use 310S coil in boiler baffles, superheater supports, and burner parts that run continuously in flue-gas heat. Its creep strength holds the load where leaner austenitics soften. Coal, biomass, and waste-to-energy plants favour the grade against corrosive ash.

Stainless Steel 310S Coils used in Food Processing Equipment

Food Processing Equipment

Bakery ovens, roasters, and drying lines rely on 310S coil for conveyors and heat shields that face repeated high-temperature contact. The stable chromium oxide layer stays clean and non-contaminating, so it meets hygiene demands while resisting scaling.

Stainless Steel 310S Coils Price

Stainless Steel 310S coils price in India ranges from ₹350 to ₹440 per kg, or roughly $3.7 to $4.6 per kg. This is a high-nickel grade, so the figure tracks global nickel rates, while thickness, width, finish, and quantity all shift it. Call or WhatsApp us for today's rate.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between 310 and 310S Stainless Steel Coils?

The main difference between 310 and 310S coils is carbon content. 310S caps carbon at 0.08%, against 0.25% maximum in 310, which cuts carbide precipitation and keeps the steel stable through long spells above 900 °C.

What is the maximum service temperature for Stainless Steel 310S Coils?

Stainless Steel 310S coils hold up to 1150 °C in continuous service and 1035 °C under intermittent, cyclic heating, provided the atmosphere stays oxidising or neutral. The lower intermittent figure reflects oxide-scale spalling under cycling.

How do Stainless Steel 310S Coils compare to SS 304 Coils for high-temperature use?

310S carries far more chromium and nickel than 304, so it resists oxidation and creep well past 304's roughly 870 °C ceiling. For furnace and kiln duty above that point, 310S coils are the right choice.

What sizes of Stainless Steel 310S Coils do you supply?

We supply 310S coils in thicknesses of 0.03 mm to 5 mm and widths of 3 mm to 2000 mm. Coil ID runs 150 mm to 610 mm, with OD up to 1800 mm.

What finish options are available for Stainless Steel 310S Coils?

We supply 310S coils in 2B, BA, Matte, Matte PVC, and Scotch-Brite finishes. Edge choices cover slit, mill, deburred, and round edges.
