What are Incoloy 800 Strips?

Incoloy 800 strips are narrow, nickel-iron-chromium alloy slit from Incoloy coil. The chemical composition runs 30 to 35% nickel and 19 to 23% chromium over a 39.5% minimum iron balance, with small additions of aluminium and titanium that stabilise the alloy's microstructure during prolonged exposure to elevated temperatures. UNS N08800 strip resists oxidation, carburisation, and sulphidation, and it holds useful strength in continuous service to around 816 °C. Typical uses include heat exchangers, furnace components, heating element sheathing, and piping systems in petrochemical plants.

As a reputable Incoloy 800 strip supplier, we slit every Inconel strip in-house on our own lines. Strip leaves annealed to ASTM B409, with a width from 3 mm to 2000 mm, in hot rolled or cold rolled supply with the edge condition your tooling needs.

Chemical Composition of Incoloy 800 Strips

Aluminium and titanium defines this grade. Each at 0.15 to 0.60% in UNS N08800 strip, stabilising the alloy through thermal cycling, while chromium at 19 to 23% builds the protective oxide film. The full ASTM B409 composition appears below.

Element Composition (%)
Nickel (Ni) 30.0 to 35.0
Chromium (Cr) 19.0 to 23.0
Iron (Fe) 39.5 min (balance)
Carbon (C) 0.10 max
Manganese (Mn) 1.50 max
Silicon (Si) 1.00 max
Copper (Cu) 0.75 max
Sulphur (S) 0.015 max
Aluminium (Al) 0.15 to 0.60
Titanium (Ti) 0.15 to 0.60

Mechanical Properties of Incoloy 800 Strips

Annealed Incoloy 800 Winding Strip pairs a 520 MPa minimum tensile strength with 30% elongation, so it forms, bends, and draws cleanly. ASTM B409 applies its yield-strength minimum only to material 0.508 mm (0.020 in) and thicker; the elongation minimum applies down to 0.25 mm (0.010 in) for cold-rolled strip. Figures for thinner slit gauges are indicative.

Property Value
Tensile Strength, minimum
520 MPa (75 ksi)
Yield Strength (0.2% offset), minimum
205 MPa (30 ksi)
Elongation in 50 mm, minimum
30%

Equivalent Grades of Incoloy 800 Strips

International buyers can cross-reference UNS N08800 strip against their regional standard below. Some enquiries name the grade Inconel 800, but the correct family name is Incoloy, since iron forms the balance.

Europe (EN) X10NiCrAlTi32-20
Germany (W.Nr) 1.4876

Industrial Applications of Incoloy 800 Strips

These 4 industries specify most of our Incoloy 800 Slitting Coil. Buyers pick the grade for oxidation and carburisation resistance and for strength that survives long thermal exposure.

Incoloy 800 Strips used in Chemical and Petrochemical Processing

Chemical and Petrochemical Processing

Chemical plants form Alloy 800 strips into reactor trim, gasket windings, and lining segments that face hot, oxidising process streams. The chromium oxide film holds off scaling, and the high nickel content resists chloride stress corrosion cracking where standard stainless steel fails early.

Incoloy 800 Strips used in Power Generation and Nuclear

Power Generation and Nuclear

Power stations and nuclear fabricators specify Incoloy 800 strip for steam generator components, heating element sheathing, and control hardware. The alloy keeps its austenitic structure under prolonged heat, so parts hold their tolerance through years of thermal cycling.

Incoloy 800 Strips used in Heat Treatment Equipment

Heat Treatment Equipment

Furnace builders wind Incoloy 800 Winding Strip into elements for high-heat muffles, retorts, continuous baskets, and radiant shields exposed to direct heat. The grade withstands carburising atmospheres to around 816 °C in continuous duty, and precision-slit widths drop into fixtures without secondary trimming.

Incoloy 800 Strips used in Food Processing

Food Processing

Food processing lines fit Alloy 800 strip into heating hardware and hygienic equipment handling organic acids and hot cleaning cycles. The alloy resists attack from acidic media without picking up scale, so contact surfaces stay clean through repeated sanitising runs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the standard specification for Incoloy 800 Strips?

Incoloy 800 strips are covered by ASTM B409 / ASME SB-409, which specifies nickel-iron-chromium alloy (UNS N08800) plate, sheet, and strip. For aerospace orders, AMS 5871 applies, and we supply to whichever standard you need.

What thickness and width ranges are available for Incoloy 800 Strips?

We slit Incoloy 800 strips from 0.03 mm to 5 mm thick and to any width between 3 mm and 2000 mm, held to ±0.1 mm. Gauge, width, finish, and edge follow your order.

What is the difference between Incoloy 800 and 800H Strips?

Incoloy 800 (UNS N08800) holds carbon to 0.10% maximum with no lower limit. Incoloy 800H (UNS N08810) keeps carbon between 0.05 and 0.10% with a controlled coarse grain size, which lifts creep-rupture strength above 600 °C. Our strips ship as base grade Incoloy 800.

Can Incoloy 800 Strips be precision slit to custom widths?

Yes, we precision-slit Incoloy 800 strips to any width from 3 mm to 2000 mm on our own lines, holding ±0.1 mm. Custom slitting is our core service.

What is the maximum service temperature for Incoloy 800 Strips?

Incoloy 800 strips serve continuously up to around 816 °C in oxidising and carburising atmospheres. For prolonged duty above that point, 800H or 800HT grades offer better creep and rupture strength.

Where can I source Incoloy 800 Strips in India?
