What are Hastelloy C22 Strips?

Hastelloy C22 strip is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum-tungsten alloy, cold rolled and slit to close tolerances. Chromium at 20 to 22.5% protects the strip in oxidising media, while molybdenum at 12.5 to 14.5% and tungsten at 2.5 to 3.5% block pitting and crevice corrosion in reducing acids. Few grades cover both sides of the corrosion spectrum this evenly. Carbon is held to 0.015% max, so welded parts keep their resistance without post-weld treatment. These Hastelloy Strips are used in the pharmaceutical and chemical processing industries.

We process each source coil on our own slitting lines, with widths from 3 mm to 2000 mm at ±0.1 mm. Strip ships in the annealed condition with full traceability on every batch.

Chemical Composition of Hastelloy C22 Strips

Chromium at 20 to 22.5% is the defining element of UNS N06022 strip, the highest in its alloy family, working with 12.5 to 14.5% molybdenum. The full ASTM B575 limits follow.

Element Composition (%)
Nickel (Ni) Balance (approx. 56)
Chromium (Cr) 20.0 to 22.5
Molybdenum (Mo) 12.5 to 14.5
Iron (Fe) 2.0 to 6.0
Tungsten (W) 2.5 to 3.5
Cobalt (Co) 2.5 max
Manganese (Mn) 0.50 max
Vanadium (V) 0.35 max
Carbon (C) 0.015 max
Silicon (Si) 0.08 max
Phosphorus (P) 0.02 max
Sulphur (S) 0.02 max

Mechanical Properties of Hastelloy C22 Strips

Annealed Hastelloy C-22 strip to ASTM B575 carries a minimum tensile strength of 690 MPa, a yield of 310 MPa, and 45% elongation, generous ductility for forming and deep drawing. C22 isn't a temper-graded alloy, so we stock strip annealed; cold-rolled material with higher tensile levels is produced against specific orders and certified individually.

Property Value (Annealed)
Tensile Strength, minimum
690 MPa (100 ksi)
Yield Strength (0.2% offset), minimum
310 MPa (45 ksi)
Elongation in 50 mm, minimum
45%

Industrial Applications of Hastelloy C22 Strips

These 4 industries consistently use the Nickel Alloy C22 strip we dispatch, drawn to its balanced resistance to oxidising and reducing corrosives.

Hastelloy C22 Strips used in Chemical and Petrochemical Processing

Chemical and Petrochemical Processing

Alloy C22 strip is specified in gaskets, bellows, and column internals in plants running mixed acids. Because chromium covers the oxidising side and molybdenum the reducing side, one grade copes with process streams that change composition between batches.

Hastelloy C22 Strips used in Flue Gas Desulphurisation

Flue Gas Desulphurisation

Scrubber liners, dampers, and expansion joints in FGD units rely on the Hastelloy C22 winding strip. Hot condensate in these systems pairs sulphuric acid with chlorides, an aggressive oxidising mix that the grade handles for the long service intervals power plants demand.

Hastelloy C22 Strips used in Pharmaceutical and Food Processing Equipment

Pharmaceutical and Food Processing Equipment

Hygienic diaphragms, seals, and heat exchanger parts use Alloy 22 strip. It tolerates repeated washdown with chlorinated and acidic cleaning agents, keeping surfaces smooth and product streams free of metallic pick-up.

Hastelloy C22 Strips used in Nuclear Fuel Reprocessing

Nuclear Fuel Reprocessing

Reprocessing plants specify UNS N06022 strip for components exposed to hot nitric acid and halide mixtures. Stability in such media is the reason the grade features in long-term nuclear waste containment programmes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Hastelloy C22 Strips used for?

Hastelloy C22 strips are used for gaskets, bellows, diaphragms, and scrubber components across the chemical, flue gas desulphurisation, pharmaceutical, and nuclear sectors, wherever oxidising and reducing corrosives attack together.

What is the difference between Hastelloy C22 and C276 Strips?

The main difference between Hastelloy C22 and C276 strips is chromium content. C22 carries 20 to 22.5% against 14.5 to 16.5% in C276, so it performs better in oxidising media. C276 holds more molybdenum and suits strongly reducing acids. For mixed or changing conditions, C22 is the more versatile choice.

What thickness and width range is available for Hastelloy C22 Strips?

Hastelloy C22 strips are available from 0.03 mm to 5 mm thick and 3 mm to 2000 mm wide, with a width slit to ±0.1 mm.

Which ASTM standard covers Hastelloy C22 Strips?

ASTM B575 and its ASME equivalent SB-575 cover Hastelloy C22 strip, sheet, and plate.

Can Hastelloy C22 Strips be welded?

Yes, Hastelloy C22 strips weld readily by TIG and MIG. The 0.015% carbon ceiling limits grain-boundary precipitation, so fabrications enter service as-welded without solution annealing.

Where can I source Hastelloy C22 Strips in India?

You can source from a reliable Hastelloy C22 strip supplier like Riddhi Siddhi Impex. Send your size and grade on call or WhatsApp and we'll provide a quote within 24 hours.
