What are Incoloy 840 Sheets & Plates?

Incoloy 840 sheets and plates are austenitic heat-resisting stainless steel flat products built on roughly 20% chromium and 20% nickel, with small titanium and aluminium additions and iron as the balance. The additions bind the oxide into a tight, adherent scale, so flat products resist scaling in air to about 1038 °C. Trade practice keeps the Incoloy name, though the chemistry is nearer heat-resistant stainless than the 800 series. It is commonly applied in electric heating elements and process equipment.

We stock Alloy 840 as cold-rolled sheet from 0.8 mm and hot-rolled plate from 3 mm to 2000 mm wide (after slitting). Material ships annealed with a mill test certificate upon request.

Industrial Applications of Incoloy 840 Sheets & Plates

These 4 industries use the Incoloy 840 sheets and plates we supply. Buyers pick the grade for scaling resistance at red heat and for how readily it forms.

Incoloy 840 Sheets & Plates used in Electric Heating Elements

Electric Heating Elements

Heating-element producers form Alloy 840 sheet into sheathing for tubular and cartridge heaters. The metal draws, welds, and swages without cracking, then builds a stable oxide in service that keeps each element dimensionally true. Thin cold-rolled sheet in BA finish suits deep-drawn sheath tubes.

Incoloy 840 Sheets & Plates used in Automotive Emission Control

Automotive Emission Control

Exhaust hardware exposes flat product to hot, oxidising gas for thousands of hours. Fabricators press Incoloy 840 sheet into heat shields, flexible connectors, and converter housings because the 20Cr-20Ni matrix resists the exhaust stream. Cold-rolled gauges keep pressing tools within their normal working loads.

Incoloy 840 Sheets & Plates used in Furnace and Heat-Treatment Equipment

Furnace and Heat-Treatment Equipment

Furnace builders line muffles, radiant sections, and carburising boxes with Nickel Alloy 840 plate. The grade withstands oxidation, sulphidation, and carburisation under continuous heat, so liners survive repeated firing cycles.

Incoloy 840 Sheets & Plates used in Petrochemical and Process Equipment

Petrochemical and Process Equipment

Process plants apply Alloy 840 plate in heater internals, baffles, and thermal processing frames. Scaling resistance holds to around 1038 °C, which matches the duty inside fired heaters.
