Stainless Steel 409 strips are flat-rolled products of titanium-stabilised ferritic stainless steel. Chromium content runs 10.5 to 11.7%, enough to hold a protective oxide scale in continuous service near 675°C. Titanium binds carbon and nitrogen, so heat-affected zones keep their corrosion resistance after welding. With nickel capped at 0.50%, this Stainless Steel 409 Winding Strip option costs around half the price of common austenitic grades. Exhaust fabricators consume most of this material worldwide.
We slit every 409 SS strip in-house from prime source coils on the lines that process our complete stainless steel strips range. Material leaves in the annealed condition only, since 409 is not supplied in hardened tempers. Widths run from 3 mm to 2000 mm, with six finishes on offer. EN 10204 traceability follows every strip from goods-in to dispatch.
