What are Alloy 20 Coils?

Alloy 20 coils are flat-rolled lengths of an austenitic nickel-iron-chromium alloy, wound for slitting and continuous fabrication. Nickel at 32.0 to 38.0% provides excellent resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking. Copper and molybdenum carry the grade through sulphuric acid, the duty for which it was developed. Niobium, added at a minimum of eight times the carbon content, minimises chromium carbide precipitation, so welded process equipment resists intergranular attack without post-weld treatment. These coils are typically used in chemical storage tanks, pickling equipment, heat exchangers, and pharmaceutical piping networks.

As a reliable Alloy 20 coils supplier, we leverage our expansive inventory to deliver custom-processed materials rapidly, drawing source coils from premium primary mills and slitting any width between 3 mm and 2000 mm. The coil form ships annealed only; no hardness ladder applies. Buyers choose from four finishes and three edge options, and a test certificate covers every dispatch.

Chemical Composition of Alloy 20 Coils

Copper is the signature element. N08020 coils pair 3.0 to 4.0% copper with 2.0 to 3.0% molybdenum to blunt sulphuric acid across most concentrations. Full ASME SB-463 limits appear below.

Element Composition (%)
Nickel (Ni) 32.0 to 38.0
Chromium (Cr) 19.0 to 21.0
Iron (Fe) Balance
Copper (Cu) 3.0 to 4.0
Molybdenum (Mo) 2.0 to 3.0
Niobium + Tantalum (Nb+Ta) 8×C min, 1.00 max
Manganese (Mn) 2.00 max
Silicon (Si) 1.00 max
Carbon (C) 0.07 max
Phosphorus (P) 0.045 max
Sulphur (S) 0.035 max

Mechanical Properties of Alloy 20 Coils

Annealed N08020 coil meets a 551 MPa minimum tensile strength with 30% elongation, so it presses and draws cleanly. Yield minimums apply from 0.51 mm; thinner gauges stay indicative.

Property Value (Annealed)
Tensile Strength, minimum
551 MPa (80 ksi)
Yield Strength (0.2% offset), minimum
241 MPa (35 ksi)
Elongation in 50 mm, minimum

Industrial Applications of Alloy 20 Coils

These 4 industries specify most of the Alloy 20 coils we slit. Each buys the grade for acid resistance, stabilised welds, or freedom from chloride cracking rather than for strength.

Alloy 20 Coils used in Chemical and Petrochemical Processing

Chemical and Petrochemical Processing

Acid plants form Alloy 20 coil into pickling-tank linings, dip tubes, and agitator cladding for sulphuric and phosphoric acid duty. The copper-molybdenum chemistry stays passive where standard austenitic stainless dissolves, and niobium stabilisation keeps welded seams sound through years of hot acid exposure.

Alloy 20 Coils used in Pharmaceutical and Food Processing

Pharmaceutical and Food Processing

Hygienic-plant fabricators press these coils into mixing components, heat exchanger strip, and CIP circuit parts. Acidic intermediates and hot cleaning chemistry cycle through such lines daily. The stabilised austenitic structure keeps surfaces from shedding corrosion products, so batch purity holds from one campaign to the next.

Alloy 20 Coils used in Power Generation and Heat Exchangers

Power Generation and Heat Exchangers

Power stations specify UNS N08020 coil for flue gas scrubber internals and acid-condensate ducting. Wet sulphur dioxide condensate corrodes ordinary grades quickly at dew point. Alloy 20 handles both the reducing and oxidising sides of that service, and slit widths feed exchanger fin and tube-wrap lines directly.

Alloy 20 Coils used in Oil and Gas Processing

Oil and Gas Processing

Refinery units handling alkylation acid and sour condensate take the remaining volume. Fabricators cut valve diaphragm and gasket stock from 20Cb-3 coil because the grade resists the acids formed in processing. High nickel content also resists chloride stress corrosion cracking in overhead systems

Frequently Asked Questions

What specification covers Alloy 20 Coils?

Alloy 20 coils are covered by ASME SB-463, which sets the chemistry and mechanical minimums for UNS N08020 plate, sheet, and strip; coils are the wound delivery form.

Are Alloy 20 Coils suitable for sulphuric acid service?

Yes, Alloy 20 coils are suitable for sulphuric acid service; the grade was developed for that duty. The nickel-chromium-copper-molybdenum balance resists both dilute and concentrated acid at ambient and moderate temperatures.

What is the difference between hot rolled and cold rolled Alloy 20 Coils?

The difference between hot rolled and cold rolled Alloy 20 coils lies in gauge and surface. HR coils arrive in heavier gauges with a duller skin. CR coils hold tighter thickness control and carry 2B or BA finishes in thinner gauges.

What coil ID and OD do you supply for Alloy 20 Coils?

We supply Alloy 20 coils with an inner diameter of 150 mm to 610 mm and an outer diameter up to 1800 mm. Coil weight follows your handling limit.

What is the price of Alloy 20 Coils per kg?

The price of Alloy 20 coils per kg is around ₹1,300 to ₹1,800 in India, or $15 to $23 for export buyers. Final figures move with thickness, width, finish, quantity, and current nickel rates.
