Incoloy 840 strips are thin cold-rolled strips manufactured from a titanium and aluminium-bearing iron-nickel-chromium alloy. The alloy has a 20Ni-20Cr-type austenitic matrix with iron as the balance. The titanium and aluminium form a tight oxide scale that resists scaling far better than plain 18-8 stainless, so the alloy offers oxidation resistance in air up to around 1038°C (1900°F). Incoloy 840 strips are commonly used as the outer protective sheath for high-temperature electrical heating elements in household appliances, industrial immersion heaters, refrigerator defrost systems, and automotive exhaust sensors.

Chromium and nickel define this grade in near-equal measure. UNS S33400 strip holds chromium for scale resistance and nickel for stability, with titanium and aluminium strengthening the oxide.
