Stainless Steel 430 foil is ultra-thin ferritic stainless rolled to gauges below 0.08 mm, carrying 16 to 18% chromium and under 0.75% nickel. Heat treatment will not harden it, so the grade takes temper by cold rolling and softens again on annealing. It stays magnetic in every condition. Annealed 430 foil reaches a 450 MPa minimum tensile strength with 22% elongation, and being non-hardenable, it ships soft only. The A240 elongation value applies above 0.38 mm and remains indicative on thinner foil.
