Inconel 718 sheets and plates are flat-rolled forms of a nickel-chromium superalloy that gain strength from heat treatment rather than cold work. Niobium at 4.75 to 5.50% forms gamma double-prime precipitates during the solution-treat-and-age cycle, lifting tensile strength past 1240 MPa. The alloy keeps that strength to about 650 °C, resists creep and fatigue, and carries a density of 8.19 g/cm³ with a melting point near 1260-1336 °C. Heat treatment, not rolling, determines the strength of Alloy 718 plate. Material arrives solution annealed and formable at 830 to 965 MPa tensile. Ageing then lifts strength to 1240 MPa minimum tensile, 1035 MPa yield, and 12% elongation, with 36 to 47 HRC per AMS 5596.
