What are Inconel 600 Strips?

Inconel 600 strips are narrow, flat-rolled lengths of nickel-chromium-iron alloy, slit from coil for continuous forming and stamping. The grade carries 72% nickel minimum, which blocks chloride-ion stress corrosion cracking and caustic attack. Melting is between 1354 and 1413°C, and service in air runs to about 1093°C. Cold work is the only strengthening route for this solid-solution alloy. They are typically used for manufacturing furnace components, chemical process vessel linings, steam generator tubing parts, and high-temperature sealing elements.

As an Inconel 600 strip supplier, we slit every UNS N06600 strip on our own lines rather than reselling mill widths. Our high-quality Inconel strips are annealed to ASTM B168 in any width from 3 mm to 2000 mm, and buyers pick from four surface finishes. Each coil is followed from inspection through to shipping.

Specifications of Inconel 600 Strips

We provide ASTM B168 strip in annealed soft condition, precision-slit from Inconel coil, with four surface finishes and four edge options in hot rolled and cold rolled forms.

Chemical Composition of Inconel 600 Strips

Chromium forms the protective oxide film that gives Alloy 600 its oxidation resistance. At 14 to 17%, it builds the film that stops Alloy 600 strip scaling, while the 72% minimum nickel base handles reducing media. ASTM B168 limits follow.

Element Composition (%)
Nickel (Ni) 72.0 min
Chromium (Cr) 14.0 to 17.0
Iron (Fe) 6.0 to 10.0
Carbon (C) 0.15 max
Manganese (Mn) 1.00 max
Silicon (Si) 0.50 max
Copper (Cu) 0.50 max
Sulphur (S) 0.015 max

Mechanical Properties of Inconel 600 Strips

In the annealed state, ASME SB-168 strip carries 550 MPa minimum tensile strength and 30% elongation, enough ductility for pressing and deep drawing. ASTM B168 does not specify a minimum yield strength below 0.51 mm thickness, so values for thinner gauges are indicative only. The grade ships annealed only; no temper ladder applies.

Property Value (Annealed)
Tensile Strength, minimum
550 MPa (80 ksi)
Yield Strength (0.2% offset), minimum
240 MPa (35 ksi) (minimum values per ASTM B168 for applicable gauges)
Elongation in 50 mm, minimum
30%

Industrial Applications of Inconel 600 Strips

These 4 industries use most of the Inconel 600 Winding Strip, choosing the grade for heat strength, oxidation resistance, or immunity to chloride cracking.

Inconel 600 Strips used in Heat Treatment and Furnace Components

Heat Treatment and Furnace Components

Heat-treatment shops roll-form Alloy 600 strip into muffle liners, radiant tube shrouds, and thermocouple protection sheaths. Strength and scaling resistance hold in oxidising atmospheres right up to about 1093 °C. Slit widths feed forming lines directly, which trims set-up time and scrap on the shop floor.

Inconel 600 Strips used in Chemical and Petrochemical Processing

Chemical and Petrochemical Processing

Inconel 600 Slitting Coil is used for heat exchanger baffles, reactor trim and gasket stock for caustic and chloride duties. Sodium hydroxide does not affect the alloy. Austenitic stainless cracks in hot chloride streams; the high nickel base doesn't, and it holds that duty for years.

Inconel 600 Strips used in Aerospace and Defence

Aerospace and Defence

Aerospace shops order AMS 5540 strip for exhaust ducting, engine seal rings, and firewall components. Strength is maintained by repeated thermal cycling, and the surface exhibits resistance to oxidation at elevated temperatures. A strip sliced to ±0.1 mm is pressed into shape, ensuring that stack-up and joint tolerances remain consistent.

Inconel 600 Strips used in Power Generation and Electrical Heating

Power Generation and Electrical Heating

Electric heater makers wind Nickel 600 strip into element sheathing, boiler trim, and thermostat springs. Nuclear fabricators use the same grade for steam generator hardware because it corrodes at a very low rate in high-purity water. Element sheaths survive years of heating cycles without losing section.

Frequently Asked Questions

What standard governs Inconel 600 Strips?

Inconel 600 strips are covered by ASTM B168 and its ASME equivalent SB-168, with AMS 5540 covering aerospace strips. We supply material certified to either route.

What thickness and width range is available for Inconel 600 Strips?

Our Inconel 600 strips run from 0.03 mm to 5 mm in thickness and slit to any width between 3 mm and 2000 mm, held to ±0.1 mm. Gauges below 0.03 mm are generally supplied as foil.

What is the maximum service temperature for Inconel 600 Strips?

The maximum service temperature for Inconel 600 strips is about 1093 °C in oxidising atmospheres. Structural duty calls for cooler operation, because tensile values drop well before that limit.

Can Inconel 600 Strips be hardened by heat treatment?

No, Inconel 600 strips can't be hardened by heat treatment. The IN600 strip strengthens through cold rolling alone, which is why mills deliver it in the annealed condition.

Do you provide mill test certificates with Inconel 600 Strips?

Yes, we provide EN 10204 Type 3.1 and 3.2 mill test certificates with Inconel 600 strips on request. Each document traces the batch back to its source coil chemistry and test results.

Where can I source Inconel 600 Strips in India?
